Bio:
Erik (Karl Eric Anton) Häggqvist (1911–1952) was a Swedish painter born in Östergötland. Extensive travels, including journeys outside Europe, had a lasting influence on his artistic vision. After serving as a volunteer during the Winter War, he spent periods living in France, where he further developed his expressive style characterised by strong colour and simplified forms. He achieved his artistic breakthrough with a solo exhibition in Linköping in 1948 and later exhibited at institutions including Norrköping Art Museum. Following his early death, several memorial exhibitions were held, and his works are represented in the collections of Linköping Museum, Norrköping Art Museum, and the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Pau, France.
