Helena Tynell was born in 1918 in Äänekoski. She graduated from the School of Art and Design in Helsinki in 1943 and then worked for three years with Arabia. In 1946 she was employed as a glass designer at Riihimäki. After the closure of Riihimäki in 1976, Tynell moved to Germany, where she worked as designer for Limburg
