Åke Holm, Sweden.
Woodcut, 1970s.

An expressive print, where three stylized figures appear in stark silhouette against a pale background. The sharply cut forms and rhythmic lines create a dramatic, almost theatrical effect, characteristic of Holm’s visual language. The work conveys raw energy and playful figuration, reflecting the artist’s deep engagement with both the religious and the vernacular.

Frame: H. 37 cm, W. 27 cm
Signature / mark: Signed “Åke Holm” lower right

Bio:
Åke Holm (1900–1980) was a Swedish sculptor, ceramicist, and printmaker, trained at the Technical School in Stockholm. He worked in ceramics, painting, and graphic techniques, but is best known for his ceramic figures inspired by biblical motifs. His works combine an archaic, almost Gothic severity with a strong personal expression. Holm’s pieces are represented in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm as well as in numerous Swedish church collections.
