Bio:
Murano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon that has been the centre of Italian glassmaking since the late 13th century. In 1291 the Venetian authorities ordered glass furnaces to move from Venice to Murano to protect the valuable secrets of glass production and reduce fire risks in the city. Over the centuries Murano glassmakers developed advanced techniques including coloured and layered glass, where different colours are encased to create depth and optical effects. During the mid-20th century Murano gained international recognition for modern art glass characterised by organic forms and vibrant colours that remain highly sought after by collectors today.
