Bio:
Sven Lignell (1927–1985) was a Swedish painter educated at Konstindustriskolan in Gothenburg and at the Valand School of Painting in Gothenburg, where he studied under artists Hjalmar Eldh, Nils Wedel and Nils Nilsson. He was particularly active during the 1950s and 1960s and exhibited at galleries in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Linköping. Lignell worked with still lifes, landscapes and portraits, often using a stylised modernist language with subtle cubist influences. His works are represented in collections including the City of Stockholm, the City of Gothenburg and the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Madrid.
