Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844) was one of Denmark’s most important sculptors and a leading figure of Neoclassicism. He worked primarily in Rome, producing sculptures inspired by classical antiquity. His works were widely reproduced, including porcelain interpretations by Bing & Grøndahl, who produced biscuit porcelain reliefs based on his designs.
