Bio:
Henry Sandoz (1919–1994) was a Swiss painter, graphic artist, and trained pianist. He studied at the Schools of Applied Arts in Biel, the Cantonal School of Drawing in Lausanne, and the School of Fine Arts in Geneva before pursuing a parallel career in graphic design. Working in both Switzerland and France, he developed a distinctive lyrical modernist style that combined expressive figuration with subtle abstraction. In 1973 he exhibited at the prestigious Galerie Katia Granoff in Paris, where six of his paintings were also published as limited-edition lithographs. Following his retirement in 1979, he devoted himself entirely to painting, leading to several exhibitions, including a major retrospective in Basel in 1980. His work is recognised for its poetic treatment of the human figure, restrained colour harmonies, and expressive, softly textured brushwork.
