Bio:
Zbigniew Kupczynski (1928–2024) was a Polish-Canadian painter recognized for his distinctive contribution to Abstract Expressionism through a highly personal figurative style. After studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, he developed an expressive visual language that contrasted with the official artistic doctrines of post-war Poland. From the late 1950s onward, he exhibited extensively throughout Europe, North America, and Japan, creating abstract works, portraits, and large-scale public commissions. His paintings are celebrated for their vibrant colour, energetic brushwork, and the fusion of abstraction with expressive human forms.
