Bio:
Claude Hilaire, known by the artist name Hastaire (1946–2020), was a French painter, lithographer and writer born in Paris and the son of painter Camille Hilaire. He studied at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and developed a distinctive visual language between lyrical abstraction and poetic figuration. His work frequently explored poetry, mythology, memory and references to art history. Hastaire exhibited internationally across Europe, the USA, Canada, Japan and Korea, including at the Palais de Tokyo and Musée Goya in Castres. In 1999, he co-founded the artist collective Groupe Mémoires.
