Large ceramic bowl with a low, broad form and decorative lustre glaze in pink and blue-green tones, finished with a gilt rim and geometric details along the edge. A characteristic example of Ekberg’s art pottery from the Art Deco period.

Bio:
Josef Ekberg (1877–1945) was a Swedish ceramicist and designer who joined Gustavsberg in 1889 and became the factory’s artistic director in 1908. He held this position until 1917 and subsequently continued his artistic work at Gustavsberg until his death. Ekberg is particularly known for his use of sgraffito decoration and lustre glazes. His career extended from the Art Nouveau period into later works with a more stylised design vocabulary, and his work is represented in the collection of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
