Alvar Aalto for Iittala, vase.

Sculptural vase in clear mouth-blown glass with Alvar Aalto’s characteristic asymmetrical and undulating form. The vase belongs to the Alvar Aalto Collection, whose original form was designed in 1936 for the Karhula-Iittala design competition. This example is marked Iittala.

Bio:
Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) was a Finnish architect and designer and one of the central figures in modern Finnish architecture and design. He graduated in architecture from Helsinki University of Technology in 1921 and worked throughout his career with architecture, furniture, lighting and glass. In 1936, his series of organic glass forms won the Karhula-Iittala design competition, and the resulting vases subsequently became some of the best-known works of Finnish design.
