Swedish rya wall hanging, circa 1970s.
Handwoven rya wall hanging in pure wool with a long, dense pile and a graphic pattern in red, cream, grey and black tones. The composition consists of horizontal red fields with geometric details, surrounded by a light border with dark accents.
Origin: Sweden.
Material: Pure wool.
Dimensions: L. 183 cm including fringes, W. 105 cm.

Bio:
Rya is a traditional Nordic weaving technique characterised by long wool knots tied onto a woven foundation. In Sweden, rya underwent a significant revival during the 20th century, when traditional techniques were combined with modern geometric patterns and strong colour compositions. During the 1960s and 70s, rya was used both as floor coverings and decorative wall textiles, becoming a distinctive element of Scandinavian textile art and interior design.
