Meissen was founded in Saxony in 1710 and is recognised as Europes first manufacturer of hard-paste porcelain. The famous Blue Onion pattern, also known as Zwiebelmuster, was developed at Meissen around 1730 and was inspired by East Asian porcelain decoration. The pattern became one of the manufactorys most iconic designs and has remained in production for centuries. The crossed swords have been Meissens distinctive factory mark since the 1720s.
