Bio:
Knud Jans (1916–1985) was a Danish painter, printmaker, and ceramic artist born in Dragør. Self-taught, he began his artistic career in 1948, drawing inspiration from the Danish spontaneous abstraction movement. His artistic language was characterised by organic forms, expressive colours, and a strong interest in the tactile qualities of materials. Jans was influenced by Asger Jorn, whose artistic approach also inspired his ceramic production. In 1958, he established his own ceramics workshop, producing decorative vessels, dishes, and large-scale reliefs. He exhibited extensively in Denmark and internationally, including Copenhagen, Munich, and Prague. His works are represented in collections including Kastrupgårdsamlingen, Museum Jorn, and the Royal Collection of Graphic Art in Copenhagen.
