An expressive and stylized nude composition created by Bragi in 1953, where simple outlines and color fields create a poetic balance between figure and space. A fine example of Icelandic postwar printmaking.

Bio:
Bragi Ásgeirsson (1931–2016)
Icelandic painter, printmaker, teacher, and art critic. Born in Reykjavík, he studied at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts, the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen, and further in Oslo, Rome, Florence, and Munich. From 1956–1996 he taught printmaking at the Icelandic Academy of Arts, pioneering the medium in Iceland, and also wrote as an art critic for Morgunblaðið.

Ásgeirsson’s work spans painting, geometric abstraction, printmaking, and assemblage. He exhibited widely in Iceland and abroad, with major retrospectives at Kjarvalsstaðir, including “Visual Symphony – 60 Years of Art”. His honors include the Edvard Munch grant, DAAD scholarship, Baltic Peace Prize, and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Falcon (2001).

He is remembered as a key figure in modern Icelandic art, active both as an artist and influential teacher.
