Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, founded in 1710 in the town of Meissen near Dresden, Germany, is Europe’s oldest porcelain factory. It was established under the patronage of Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony, after the secret of producing hard-paste porcelain in Europe was discovered—a technique previously known only in China. Meissen is renowned for its high quality, artistic craftsmanship, and iconic decorations such as the “Blue Onion” pattern. The factory still uses its distinctive trademark of two crossed swords, one of the world’s oldest registered trademarks.
