Large vase, mid-20th century.
Handmade terracotta vase shaped as a male head with turban, hand-painted in vivid colours – brown, yellow, green and blue. A classic example of the Sicilian maiolica tradition from Caltagirone.

Bio:
Ceramics from Caltagirone in Sicily are renowned for their hand-painted maiolica figures and vibrant decorations inspired by local legends and folk art. Head vases such as this one, known as Teste di Moro, symbolise love and jealousy and are among the most iconic forms of Sicilian ceramic artistry.
