Marianne Starck for Michael Andersen & Søn, rectangular dish/wall relief.

Rectangular stoneware dish with relief decoration depicting a stylised face. Executed in brown-toned stoneware with blue and green glaze in the recessed areas. Model 5906.

Origin: Bornholm, Denmark.
Designer: Marianne Starck.
Material: Stoneware.
Dimensions: H. 11 cm, W. 17 cm.
Period: 1960s.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor signs of wear.

Bio:
Marianne Starck (1931–2007) was a Danish ceramicist born in Holstein. She trained as a potter from 1949 to 1952 and subsequently studied graphic arts at the Landeskunstschule in Hamburg. From 1955 to 1993 she was associated with Michael Andersen & Søn on the island of Bornholm, where she played a key role in introducing and developing stoneware production. Her work includes both functional wares and decorative reliefs, often characterised by strong graphic motifs and stylised figures. She lived and worked in Rønne and is internationally recognised for her ceramic oeuvre.
