Bio:
Murano is a small island in the Venetian Lagoon and has been the centre of Italian glassmaking since the 13th century. In 1291 the Venetian authorities ordered glass furnaces to move from Venice to Murano to protect the valuable secrets of glass production. Over the centuries the island’s glassmakers developed numerous advanced techniques, including controlled air bubbles, coloured glass and free-form sculptural objects. During the mid-20th century Murano gained international recognition for its modern art glass, particularly decorative bowls and sculptural forms produced in vibrant colours and organic shapes, which became highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
