Bio:
Louis Icart (1888–1950) was a French painter and printmaker born in Toulouse. He moved to Paris in 1907 where he studied drawing, painting and printmaking. Icart became particularly renowned during the 1920s and 1930s for his elegant colour etchings depicting fashionable and playful female figures. His work blends the refined line and grace of eighteenth-century masters such as Watteau, Boucher and Fragonard with the decorative sophistication associated with the Art Deco era. His prints achieved great popularity both in Europe and especially in the United States, and they remain among the most recognisable graphic works of interwar Paris.
