Bio:
Eugène de Sala (1899–1987), born Osvald Lykkeberg Salomonsen in Randers, was a Danish self-taught painter and graphic artist often regarded as one of the pioneers of avant-garde art in Denmark. During the 1920s and 1930s he introduced international modernist trends inspired by artistic circles in Paris and Berlin, including cubism, dada and surrealist tendencies. De Sala became known for his radical artistic persona and his provocative role within the Danish art scene, challenging the aesthetic norms of his time. After a period of relative obscurity, interest in his work revived in the 1970s, and today his works are represented in collections including the National Gallery of Denmark (Statens Museum for Kunst).
