Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844) was a Danish sculptor and one of the leading figures of Neoclassicism in Europe. His works were widely reproduced in porcelain and biscuit by manufacturers such as Royal Copenhagen, making his motifs accessible to a broader audience.
