Italian alabaster, box from the 1940s.
Circular lidded box in alabaster with beautifully variegated veining in pink, green and beige tones. Finished with a refined brass band that adds an elegant Art Deco character.
Origin: Italy.
Material: Alabaster and brass.
Dimensions: H. 6 cm, D. 10 cm.
Period: 1940s.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor signs of wear.
Bio:
Italian alabaster production has for centuries been centred around Volterra in Tuscany. In the 20th century, particularly during the Art Deco period, alabaster was widely used for decorative boxes and interior objects, where the material’s natural colour variations and translucency were highlighted through simple, elegant forms and the use of metals such as brass.
