Italian alabaster, boxes from the 1940s.
Two oval boxes in alabaster with integrated brass bands. The soft rounded forms combined with the warm metallic detail create an elegant Art Deco expression, while the natural veining of the alabaster enhances the decorative quality.
Origin: Italy.
Material: Alabaster and brass.
Dimensions: H. 3–4 cm, D. 7–8 cm.
Period: 1940s.
Condition: Excellent condition with minor signs of wear.
Bio:
Italian alabaster production has been centred around Volterra in Tuscany since antiquity and experienced renewed popularity in the 20th century. During the Art Deco period, alabaster was often combined with materials such as brass to create a contrast between the soft, translucent stone and metal, resulting in elegant and decorative objects.
