Bio:
Emanuel A. Petersen (1894–1948) was a Danish painter celebrated as one of the foremost artistic interpreters of Greenland during the first half of the twentieth century. Originally trained as a theatrical decorative painter, he travelled extensively throughout Greenland between the 1920s and 1940s, producing thousands of paintings inspired by its dramatic fjords, mountains, snow, and distinctive Arctic light. His compositions are characterised by lyrical harmony and a romantic vision of the landscape, with human figures typically serving as understated elements within the vast scenery. Petersen's works are prominently represented in the Nuuk Art Museum and remain among the most sought-after historical depictions of Greenlandic landscapes.
