Bio:
Antonio Nicolo Gasparo Jacobsen (1850–1921) was a Danish-born marine painter from Copenhagen who emigrated to the United States during the 1870s. Based in Hoboken, New Jersey, he became one of the leading ship portraitists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Renowned for his meticulous depictions of steamships, sailing vessels and transatlantic liners, Jacobsen received commissions from shipping companies, captains and private owners throughout his career. His combination of documentary precision and dramatic marine atmosphere has secured his reputation as one of the foremost maritime painters of his generation, with works held in numerous museum and private collections worldwide.
