Bio:
Robert Jacobsen (1912–1993) was one of the significant Danish sculptors of the 20th century and also worked with painting and graphic art. During the post-war period, he became closely associated with European abstract and Constructivist art and lived in France from 1947 to 1969, where he joined the artistic circle around Galerie Denise René in Paris. Jacobsen achieved international recognition particularly for his open iron sculptures, in which line, space and void are central elements – a formal language also reflected in his graphic works. He received the Thorvaldsen Medal in 1967 and later held professorships at both the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts.
