Bio:
Awaji ware, also known as Mimpei ware, originates from Awaji Island in Japan’s Seto Inland Sea. The tradition was founded in the 1830s by the potter Kashu Mimpei, who trained in Kyoto and enjoyed the patronage of the local lord. The ware is known for its pale clay body and colourful glazes in blue, yellow and green, and the tradition was continued by later potters on the island.
