The Sommerso technique has been specially developed on the island of Murano off Venice.
The technique takes many years to learn and was kept secret for years.
Sommerso vases are blown by blowing the innermost layer of color into the next and then advancing. All this happens while the glass is still liquid
This vase is with drawn neck and small "arms", it almost looks like a bird, which was a favorite motif of the Italian artists on Murano.
