The figure who later became Mr. Punch, made his first appearance
in England on May 9, 1662, which is traditionally considered Punch's British birthday.
Punch and Judy (Mr. Punch's wife) began appearing in
the early 1660s, a period when art and theater flourished.
Punch and Judy is a traditional puppet show
with Mr. Punch and his wife Judy.
The performance consists of a series of short scenes,
each showing an interplay between two characters,
most typically Mr. Punch and another character who
usually falls victim to Punch's slapstick.
