In the past, paper was an expensive commodity, so playing cards were not thrown out when they were bent or dirty. They were pressed flat again after use in a press like this.
Beautifully executed card press in rosewood with inlays of mother of pearl, silver and with ivory knobs.
This is from the late 1800s.
It is in very fine condition. A knob is missing.
