Olaf Rude was a Danish painter and a central figure in Danish modernism. He is especially known for his vibrant paintings and his focus on structure and form in composition.
In 1918, Rude was an active member of the artist group Grønningen, which he had co-founded in 1915. That year, he exhibited with the group and was recognized as one of the key innovators in Danish art. Influenced by artists like Cézanne and the Fauves, his work during this period showed a shift away from naturalism toward a more constructive and color-focused style
