Peter Vilhelm Ilsted (1861–1933) was a Danish painter and printmaker, closely associated with Vilhelm Hammershøi and Carl Holsøe. He became especially renowned for his atmospheric interior scenes and for his virtuosity in the mezzotint technique, which he elevated to an international level. Ilsted’s works radiate calm, simplicity, and Nordic light, and today he is regarded as one of the most significant exponents of Danish interior art of the early 20th century.
