Bio:
Jean Fautrier (1898-1964) was a French painter, printmaker, and sculptor, regarded as one of the pioneers of the European Art Informel and Tachisme movements. He began exhibiting in the 1920s, but rose to prominence after World War II with his celebrated Otages (“Hostages”) series, which responded to Nazi atrocities. His graphic works are marked by poetic, sensitive line drawings and an ability to capture both intensity and fragility in his subjects.
