Biography :
Josef Schott was born in 1915 in Marienbad (then in Czechoslovakia). He studied art and design in Salzburg and Berlin, and after World War II moved to Sweden. In 1955 he became a designer at Smålandshyttan Glassworks in Sweden, where he worked for many years and created distinctive modern glassworks.
Schott’s work is characterized by heavy-cast glass, bold relief patterns, and the use of the “sommerso” technique – coloured glass encased in clear glass. He designed vases, bowls, and decorative pieces during the 1960s, often with striking geometric forms and strong textures.
Josef Schott passed away in 2009 at the age of 94.
