Bio:
Colin Melbourne (1928–2009) was an English sculptor, ceramicist, painter and academic, trained at the Royal College of Art. He designed for Beswick and Wade in the Staffordshire Potteries, creating modern, sculptural forms that revitalised British ceramics in the postwar period. Melbourne later became Head of the Faculty of Art and Design at North Staffordshire Polytechnic and founded the Sir Henry Doulton School of Sculpture. His work—both in ceramics and public monuments—reflects his belief that art plays a vital role in everyday life.
