Small cylindrical glazed ceramic vase with a slightly narrowed neck. The body is decorated with vertical relief-applied stripes in terracotta tones against a darker, lightly speckled ground glaze, finished with a light, coarsely textured base. The decoration creates a strong tactile and modernist expression. Model number 4594.

Bio:
Mari Simmulson (1911–2000) was a Swedish ceramic artist and designer who worked for many years at Upsala Ekeby. She is known for her experimental surfaces and decorative structures, where relief, rhythm and colour play are key elements. Her work from the 1950s and 60s reflects the Scandinavian modernist interest in materiality and clarity of form. Upsala Ekeby was one of Sweden’s leading ceramic producers during this period, and its production is today highly regarded by collectors.
