Bio:
Johann Seltmann was born in 1856 in Schlottenhof, Bavaria. After a period of limited involvement in the porcelain trade, he co-founded a porcelain factory in Altenstadt near Vohenstrauß in 1901 together with his brother Christian Wilhelm Seltmann. Benefiting from railway access and an available workforce, the factory expanded rapidly and became one of the region’s major employers with a strong export share. Following Johann Seltmann’s death in 1921, the business was continued by his sons and developed during the interwar years into a significant Bavarian porcelain manufacturer, producing decorative wares in line with contemporary art deco taste.
