Nils-Erik Zetterström, chess set with figures.
Unique ceramic chess set consisting of a complete set of thirty-two hand-modelled figures executed in unglazed clay. The pieces are designed as stylised human figures and sculptural forms, each with individual character and detailing. Several of the pieces are signed. The set presents an artistic interpretation of a chess game with a strong sculptural character. Created in 1959.

Origin: Sweden.

Condition: Excellent condition with minor signs of wear.

Bio:
Nils-Erik Zetterström was a Swedish ceramic artist and designer active during the mid-20th century. He produced both unique art pieces and functional ceramics and was recognised for his skilled craftsmanship and distinctive artistic language. His work is often characterised by balanced proportions, clean lines and naturalistic glazes in muted tones. Zetterström experimented with both form and surface, creating objects ranging from elegant vessels to sculptural works with a strong artistic presence. Today his ceramics are sought after by collectors and appreciated for their technical quality and their place within Swedish ceramic art.
