Bio:
Murano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon and has been the centre of Italian glassmaking since the late 13th century. In 1291 the Venetian authorities ordered glass furnaces to move from Venice to Murano to protect the valuable secrets of glass production and reduce fire risks in the city. Over the centuries Murano glassmakers developed advanced techniques including coloured glass, controlled air bubbles and free-form sculptural objects. During the mid-20th century Murano gained international recognition for modern art glass characterised by strong colours, organic forms and sculptural designs that remain highly sought after by collectors today.
