Bio:
Murano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon that has been the centre of Italian glassmaking since the late 13th century. In 1291 the Venetian authorities moved the glass furnaces from Venice to Murano in order to protect the secrets of glass production and reduce the risk of fires in the city. Over the centuries Murano glassmakers developed advanced techniques including coloured glass, iridescent finishes and free-form sculptural objects. During the mid-20th century Murano gained international recognition for modern art glass characterised by organic shapes and decorative surface effects that remain highly sought after by collectors today.
