Bio:
Murano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon and has been the centre of Italian glassmaking since the 13th century. In 1291 the Venetian authorities ordered the glass furnaces to move from Venice to Murano in order to protect the valuable secrets of glass production and reduce fire risks in the city. Over the centuries Murano glassmakers developed sophisticated techniques including coloured glass, iridescent surfaces and free-form sculptural objects. During the mid-20th century Murano gained international recognition for its modern art glass, characterised by vibrant colours, organic forms and experimental surface effects that became highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
