Bio:
Fyens Glasværk was a Danish glassworks founded in Odense in 1890 by consul Frederik Hey following the acquisition of the earlier Odense Glassworks established in 1873. The company became known for producing utilitarian glass, bottles, lighting glass, and decorative art glass in a distinctive Danish style. During the first half of the 20th century, the factory gained particular recognition for its elegant coloured glass and pressed glass inspired by French glassmaking traditions.
Fyens Glasværk later became part of several mergers with other Danish glassworks, including Kastrup Glasværk and eventually Holmegaard, securing an important place in Danish glass history throughout the 20th century. Production in Odense continued until 1990, when the factory closed after more than a century of operation. Today, pieces from Fyens Glasværk are sought-after collectors’ items, appreciated for their craftsmanship and historical importance within Danish design.
