Expressive figurative composition depicting a human figure with outstretched arms, executed in mixed media on paper. The body is constructed through raw, fragmented contours and earthy grey tones, while orange and reddish accents define the head and outline of the figure. The pale background and darker field along the lower edge reinforce the dramatic and reduced visual language of the composition. The work forms part of a series centred on the death of Christ as its recurring religious theme. Signed in pencil and dated 2018.

Bio:
Nis Schmidt 1932–2025 was a Danish painter and self-taught visual artist whose artistic practice was closely associated with ecclesiastical art and Christian iconography. He completed numerous church commissions, including altar crosses, stained-glass works and reliefs. His visual language is characterised by strongly drawn and often fragmented motifs in which line and colour function as central elements. Throughout his long career, Schmidt combined his extensive knowledge of Christianity with a highly personal and expressive artistic language.
