Bio:
Josef Ekberg (1877–1945) was a Swedish ceramicist and designer associated with Gustavsberg from 1889 until his death. He served as the factory’s artistic director from 1908 to 1917 and subsequently continued as a designer with his own studio at Gustavsberg. Ekberg worked extensively with sgraffito decoration and lustre glazes, and during the 1920s and 1930s he focused particularly on art pottery with lustre decoration. His work from this period is characterised by stylised forms, metallic shimmering glazes and gilt details. Ekberg is represented in the collection of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
