Bio:
Kai Nielsen (1882–1924) was a Danish sculptor, born in Svendborg and educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. He achieved his breakthrough in the early 20th century and became one of the most prominent Danish sculptors of his generation. The human body was central to his art, and his work ranged from monumental public sculpture to smaller bronze statuettes. Venus Kallipygos was modelled in 1909, with a bronze example represented in the Ordrupgaard collection. Nielsen also worked with Bing & Grøndahl and Herman A. Kähler, helping bring his smaller sculptural works to a wider audience.
