Royal Copenhagen, Flora Danica deep plate.

Deep plate from the Flora Danica service in hand-painted porcelain, decorated with the botanical species Viola biflora L. The motif depicts the plant with green, heart-shaped leaves, delicate roots and characteristic yellow flowers. The plate features the services richly gilded border with pierced details and small hand-painted botanical decorations. The underside is inscribed with the plants Latin name and model number 20/3546. First quality, made in 1954.

Bio:
Royal Copenhagen was founded in 1775 by apothecary Frantz Henrich Müller under the patronage of Dowager Queen Juliane Marie and became the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory in 1779. Flora Danica was begun in 1790 as a prestigious royal project featuring botanical motifs from the monumental Danish Flora Danica reference work. Johann Christoph Bayer worked on the original service for 12 years and produced the majority of its 1,802 pieces. Flora Danica is renowned for its demanding craftsmanship, including individual hand-painting, pierced borders and 24-carat gold decoration.
