Round fruit plate from the Flora Danica service in hand-painted porcelain, decorated with a naturalistic motif of ripe orange fruit on branches with green leaves. The plate features the services characteristic pierced border with richly gilded details and beaded rim. First quality, model number 429/3554, made in 1965.

Bio:
Royal Copenhagen was founded in 1775 by apothecary Frantz Henrich Müller under the patronage of Dowager Queen Juliane Marie and became the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory in 1779. The Flora Danica service was begun in 1790 as a royal prestige project using motifs from the botanical Flora Danica reference work. Johann Christoph Bayer worked on the original service for 12 years and produced the majority of its 1,802 pieces. The service is particularly renowned for its demanding hand-painted decoration, pierced borders and 24-carat gold detailing.
