Alvar Aalto for Iittala, two vases.

Two sculptural vases in white glass with Alvar Aalto’s characteristic asymmetrical, undulating forms. The vases belong to the Alvar Aalto Collection, whose original glass series was designed in 1936 for the Karhula-Iittala design competition. One vase is marked and retains its original box, while the other retains its original Iittala sticker.

Condition: Excellent condition with minor signs of wear.

Bio:
Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) was a Finnish architect and designer and a central figure in modern Finnish architecture and design. He graduated as an architect in Helsinki in 1921 and worked throughout his career with architecture, furniture, lighting and glass. In 1936, his organic glass series won first prize in the Karhula-Iittala design competition, marking the beginning of the celebrated Aalto vases.
