Ole Søndergaard came from homesteaders in the area around the Zealand town of Lejre.
Educated from technical school with Holger Grønvold 1897-98, then the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen 1898-1900 and finally art study school 1900-02 with Kristian Zahrtmann.
